Video Editing / evaluating media

The focus for the EDCI 337 – Educational Technology, Interactive and Multimedia Learning. This week we looked at different forms of media we could distinguish and critique, We looked at what made a good media and what could be improved on. We were tasked with creating our own video from either a previous class or create video based on some of the subject we have learned in this class. For my video I chose to go with a video I have previously edited. As I am apart of the UVic Archery club, as the current President and will be stepping down for the next year. Because of me graduating we decided to do a new announcement video based on who would be in the new positions of the Archery club as we normally announce this over a final dinner for the club, but due to covid-19 we could not have a in-person dinner and did the announcement over video for those who are continuing at the club in the next coming years. I have some basic editing skills such as, trimming, croping, adding effects, title and end screen and cutting out the audio when needed. This video is to showcase some of the knowledge I know for editing videos.

Speaking of videos we learned in this section of EDCI 337 choosing on what media we should use for our lessons and teaching strategies.This can be tricky but when looking at the two models SAMR, or SECTIONS which are two definitions that we had learned about in the lessons distributed, these methods are used to help decide how they can help you teach a lesson to others or plan the best video for your viewers.

Personally I would use the SECTIONS model only because it has a more detailed structure to it, A structure that takes you step by step and covering all sections of the media to use.

Such as:

• Cost – how much will this media cost to use
• What you what your students to know
• How easy is this media to navigate?
• Will the viewers be able to understand it easily,
• What ways is this media gonna be able to help you teach?
• What interaction with this have on your students?
• How organized is this technology?
• Finally how secure is this media to your users and others in the networking.

I found the benefits of the SECTIONS really help us understand how media can be interpreted, and the best way to evaluate how media should be used for teaching lessons. The learning context can help students see the details behind each video presentation and can explain any concept to the students in a better light/understanding.
